or, What a Writer Does when Oral Surgery Goes Awry

You Should Read This

A couple of weeks ago, I had two teeth extracted, and one of them became what is known as a dry socket - I’ll spare you the details except to say the pain is excruciating and healing will take a few weeks. On the plus side, I’m already seeing progress. On the negative side, it still hurts like hell, and more, it’s an all-encompassing pain that makes even thinking hard.

So this week, as I heal, I’m leaning into other ways of meeting my obligations, because I didn’t want to leave you hanging. I can think of no better way than to promote this post from my colleague, Rev. Sean Neil-Barron.

It’s called “When to Speak Up & What's Useful To Say” - and Sean goes through the thinking process of how and when to respond to the news. It’s a practical examination - much of his brilliant writing at his Substack, Civic Grace, is brilliant and practical and exactly what we need for putting our faith into action out in the world. And I think this piece is a thousand times better than anything I could write on the subject.

Check out his post, and give him a follow.

And say a prayer that this dental pain dissipates quickly, because UGH THIS SUCKS.

See you next week.
